Day 4-Musee Du Louvre

On day 4 we woke up to the sound of rain outside our window which really made no difference to us as we had decided to make it a day at the museum. It’s was a no brainer to decide which museum to visit as it had to be the Musee du Louvre one of the world’s largest museums originally a castle and it is to say the least very very large .

Traveling like three true Parsiennes we arrive at the metro stop Palais Royal Musee Du Louvre only to discover that our intern communication had been out of wack! Not good as our safe in our hotel room had been left unlocked for the staff to help themselves to a little cash. After tossing a coin Peter headed back towards our hotel to make sure our hard earned cash was safe and the girls patiently waited at the metro station counting trains coming every two minutes and watching people until our hero arrived back letting us know our cash was safe.

Due to our delay our plan to be at the museum early had gone out the window, we now had to queue with lots of other tourists and school groups to buy our tickets, but again it went surprisingly quickly. With our tickets in hand we were off through security where at the first attempt Peters backpack failed the size test (little surprise when you see what’s in there) maybe a few cameras, lenses, filters and god knows what else to many. At our second security choice and attempt the backpack was not an issue at all so off we were with audio guides and map.
Of course it made absolutely no difference that we’d been there before but we had trouble reading the map and got slightly lost but not before making it to Mona Lisa and other important “must see” items.
We wandered through the magnificent building admiring the huge paintings, straining our necks looking at the painted ceilings to the beautiful floors then staying quite a while at the Egyptian section of the museum.

It’s hard to describe but this is such a huge museum and to try to see it all in one day is just impossible so by mid-afternoon we were all exhausted and decided to call it a day and ventured outside into a grey day with varied moments of light and heavy rain.

Feeling refreshed by the rain our next stop was some tourist shopping, some Paris memorabilia to bring back home and as we live in the Latin Quarter’s we hopes off the metro at St-Michel Notre Dame and wandered through the many souvenir shops hunting for the right stuff with lousy results as the only thing bought was a t-shirt for Salme. Now we decided it was time for a little “siesta” and as Peter and Salme quickly put their feet up Yvonne went shopping, but don’t get too excited it was only a few groceries that was needed, nothing new just the normal stuff like more water, wine, fruit hair gel and deodorant.

Well rested we decided to walk a different direction for yet another of many restaurants that seem to be of no shortage, they are literally everywhere.
After our yet again very enjoyable meal we decided to call it a day and walked through the light rain towards our hotel to make sure we’d be well rested for the adventure in the morning, which includes picking up our lease car and to drive in Paris nothing to be taken lightly. They really drive like crazy so hopefully we’ll be cool, calm and collected as well as having nerves of steel. How well it went is to be read about in our next entry.
